BBright UHD-Play Server Leads Global 4K Trials at Tier 1 Operators

Company news

11 September 2015

BBright, the fast growing Ultra HD (UHD) infrastructure and video compression start up, has through its UHD-Play server become a trusted and reliable source of 4K content among major UHD trials being conducted by Tier-1 operators worldwide.

In some of the trials BBright has also provided the Live encoding with its SLED-4K HEVC encoder, while in others it has been working alongside other encoding vendors to complement the  UHD infrastructure.

The UHD-Play appliance has already been tested as a reference uncompressed baseband source on numerous live 4K encoders from Allegro DVT, Ateme, Envivio, Harmonic, Thomson Video Network and Vislink.

BBright UHD-Play has also been selected as the latest technology source in a significant HDR/SDR trial led by Orange and France Télévisions. This trial was set up to compare the consumer visual experience of watching UHD 50p tennis content with and without High Dynamic Range (HDR). BBright contributed two UHD-Play servers, one to supply uncompressed 4K video footage in HDR and one in SDR (Standard Dynamic Range).
The UHD-Play source offers some advanced technologies including support for AC-3, E-AC-3 and AC-4 pass-through on quad 3G-SDI, and evolution paths towards 12G-SDI or future IP-based connectivity.

Then, in one of the highest profile and largest scale sports trials in UHD so far, BBright supplied both Live encoding and playout to the French public broadcaster France Télévisions for 4K streaming of the 2015 French Tennis Open. This 2-week long trial enabled France Télévisions to demonstrate UHD 50p streaming at low bit rate on a private IPTV network. BBright’s SLED-4K Live encoder was used to provide HEVC 10-bit encoded UHD streams at 16 Mbps to a local IPTV network serving multiple 4K STB’s and TV’s in lounges and the park of the tournament site.

“Our strong presence at these trials confirms our status as the leader in UHD reference source as well as a significant force in HEVC encoding,” said Guillaume Arthuis, BBright’s CEO. “We are delighted to be playing such a major role in 4K trials around the world which are already accelerating UHD adoption in many countries.”

Meet BBright during IBC, RAI Amsterdam in Hall 2 on Booth 2.B39a from 11th to 15th September 2015.
